New Onsite Galleries

Look, Listen, Touch and Wonder about Australian history through a series of education programs and Museum experiences.

Qualified Educators lead Students through Australian Curriculum aligned, inquiry driven programs to gain an understanding of Australia’s past, present and future.

In the immersive Great Southern Land gallery Students explore interactives to learn about the vibrancy of our ancient continent, connecting with objects and stories from
Deep Time to today.

The Landmarks gallery launches in mid-2025 – Students will explore Australian history since European settlement in 1788, with stories of people and places across the continent.

All programs run for 1 hour and are PACER approved, except Then and Now.

Deadly Defining Moments Years 5–12
Key moments in history, from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives.

Country and Connection Years 7–10
A gallery exploration of a land which is interconnected, life-giving and always changing.

The Story of Country Years 3–6
A gallery exploration of the story of the vast and vibrant Australian continent.

Then and Now Years K–2
Object handling and gallery exploration, investigating how life has changed in Australia over the past 100 years.

Meet the People Years 3–10
The life of a fascinating Australian, told through key objects and gallery exploration.

Making a Nation Years 5–10
Investigate the theme of nationhood by handling objects and exploring the Museum’s galleries.

A Living Culture Years K–10
Handle and explore objects to help understand how Indigenous cultures have evolved and adapted in the past 200 years.

Indigenous Rights and Freedoms Years 9–12
Learn about key people involved in the struggles for rights and freedoms for Indigenous Australians and how these struggles were shaped by global trends.
