National Portrait Gallery

On the face of it

The National Portrait Gallery is a cultural institution where students will discover remarkable Australians who inspire, thrill and delight.

Come and experience our student-centred and interactive educational programs, led by experienced learning facilitators.

The content for all of our programs is crosscurricular. We offer sessions in Visual Art, History, Civics and Citizenship, and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Activism. We also facilitate Visual Thinking Strategies, a critical thinking and visual literacy program for all levels of education.

Face-to-face: Portrait School

ARE YOU COMING TO CANBERRA? Our onsite dynamic and participatory programs encourage critical thinking through conversation, visual analysis and creative activities that cater for different learning styles.

See you online: Virtual Excursions

CAN’T VISIT US IN REAL LIFE? LET US COME TO YOU! Our live and fully interactive sessions let you discover the Portrait Gallery’s Collection from the comfort of your classroom – explore new ideas and ways of seeing, when responding creatively through activities.
