The NFSA’s mission is to collect, preserve and share Australia’s vibrant and diverse audiovisual culture as embodied by our evolving collection – reflecting who we were, who we are, and who we want to be.
At the NFSA
Spark your students’ imagination as they look at, think about and critically engage with the NFSA collection of almost 4 million items during our exciting programs.
Our flagship program, Media and Me, empowers young people with media literacy skills to navigate their world and participate confidently in society. Students learn to critically analyse, question and interrogate what they see and hear in media, learning from our history to build a better future. This program is PACER accredited.
Students can also discover the contributions Australians have made to some of the most prominent films of our time, as they take a self-guided tour through our Australians & Hollywood exhibition, which will continue throughout 2023.
Join us for a night at the movies! We have reserved access to the NFSA’s art deco Arc Cinema for school groups to enjoy a personalised movie experience, enhanced by a fun selection of pre-movie clips and vintage ads from our collection. In 2023 we will be showing:
- Monday - Storm Boy (1976)
- Tuesday - Oddball (2015)
- Wednesday - Blueback (2022 NEW RELEASE)
In 2024 a new range of films will be on offer. All films are G or PG rated for student audiences.
All bookings can be made through Book Canberra Excursions
DIGITAL EXCURSIONS
The NFSA offers digital excursions you can join from wherever you are across Australia. Your students will learn how to be media literate citizens by interrogating examples from our collection to develop their curiosity and critical thinking skills.
