Museum of Australian Democracy at Old Parliament House
MoAD (Museum of Australian Democracy) is located in the spiritual home of Australian democracy—Old Parliament House.
Students participating in MoAD Learning programs will be empowered to become active citizens through inquiry-based learning, interactive technology and historic role plays where decisions that shaped our nation were made.
Through our learning programs students take part in transformative learning experiences that promote the importance of democratic participation.
Our programs engage and inform young citizens, empowering them to use their voice and actively participate in democracy.
Facilitated programs are eligible for the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate; see pacer. org.au. Please remember all programs MUST be booked in advance and final numbers
confirmed to enable staffing ratios on the day or your visit.
Our website contains details of all our onsite and online programs for primary and secondary students (which we can tailor), as well as a range of resources to assist you and your students in the classroom. Find out more at moadoph.gov.au/ learning.
During MoAD Learning programs, students bring history to life as they re-enact historical political events where they happened. They take part in interactive political debates in historic chambers, explore our democratic history using interactive digital screens, and make connections to their contemporary world.
MoAD Learning provides a wide range of curriculum-relevant, fun and engaging online resources for students, teachers and families. These resources can be used to prepare students for their visit, to extend learning back in the classroom or to support teachers to teach a range of subject areas.
MoAD Learning's Digital Excursions bring the heritage and history of Old Parliament House directly into the classroom. Our museum educators guide students through the building on a virtual program and along the way facilitate group activities and quizzes exploring our democracy. A Digital Excursion is perfect for students in remote and regional schools, hospital schools and distance education centres. All that is required is a free application downloaded to a digital device and connected to an interactive whiteboard or similar set-up in your classroom. Interested?
