Attraction Opening / booking information, regarding future school visitation.

BOOKING INFORMATION

This information is effective as of the commencement of Term 4, 2020 but it is important to note that all information is subject to change and attractions will continue to adhere to latest Government advice.  Please continue to check this page or each attractions website for additional information.

Australian Institute of Sport

 
  • School groups resuming for Term 1 2021, but revised program (Sportex only, + Sports Experience) and limited capacities in Term 1.
  • Normal offering anticipated from Term 2 2021.
  • Stays on site resuming from Term 2 2021.

Australian National Botanic Gardens

  • Accepting bookings and school groups, all visiting groups must be booked.
  • Outdoor programs only - programs with indoor activities will not be available.
  • Limit of 100 students per cohort booking, other program specific limitation may apply, please see our website.

Australian War Memorial

  • Primary School visits only in Term 4 2020
  • Bookings open for Primary and Secondary School visits in Terms 1 and 2 2021, with modified program types
  • Capacity restrictions apply-see website for details

Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex

  • Closed for Term 4 and advised all remaining school bookings of cancellation due to Coivd19 restrictions.
  • Completely booked out for 2021 already, and taking waitlist requests only.
  • Strong 2022 bookings already coming in. Recommend making booking requests asap.

ACT Historic Places

  • Accepting  bookings Learning Programs at Lanyon Homestead in Term 3.
  • Learning Programs will be restricted to a duration of 2 hours and observe physical distancing rules of 1 person per 4 square metres.
  • Numbers limited to a maximum of  between 50 and 54 with a ratio of 2 adults per 10  students required to assist with physical distancing.

Cockington Green Gardens

  • Yes accepting Groups for term 3, numbers as per ACT GOV group numbers and current restrictions
  • We are taking bookings
  • Group numbers are as per current ACT Gov requirements. Park Capacity is 500+ with patrons at 1.5m spacings

CSIRO Discovery

  • Closed for Term 4.
  • Open term 1 2021 for pre booked programs. Capacity limits may apply and programs may be modified to comply with current government advice. Impacted schools will be notified

Geoscience Australia

 
  • Open for Term 1 2021 and taking new 2021 bookings but spaces are limited.
  • Covid protocols are being finalised which may require rescheduling/adjustments of some bookings.

High Court of Australia

  • School booking cancelled for 2020
  • Limit of 15 students and up to 5 adults per tour in 2021

Mount Stromlo Observatory

Mulligans Flat Woodland Sanctuary

  • Accepting bookings.
  • Operating as an outdoor venue within COVID-19 safety guidelines issued by the ACT Government.

Museum of Australian Democracy

  •  Honouring existing bookings.
  •  Accepting Term 4 bookings as normal.
  • Some specialised programs may be unavailable due to space restrictions.

National Arboretum Canberra

  • Able to receive schools.
  • All school groups, including self guide, must be booked.
  • There are playground number restrictions – consider facilitated programs/activities or take advantage of walking trails.
  • Check in at the front desk on arrival – Officer on duty will assist coordinating groups with other schools onsite.

National Archives of Australia

  • Accepting new school bookings from 1 September 2020. 
  • Honouring all existing school bookings and accepting new bookings on a case-by-case basis as numbers may need to be capped to ensure distancing between students, other visitors and National Archives staff.

National Capital Authority

Existing bookings assessed and accepted dependent on group size. (From August 1st  3 groups of 15 students per hour at the National Capital Exhibition).

New bookings accepted dependent on group size and availability for term 4.

Changed capacity conditions require rescheduling of some bookings.

National Dinosaur Museum

  • Accepting school groups
  • Honouring current bookings (subject to government border advice e.g. currently not accepting Victoria,, new bookings accepted subject to availability
  • Restrictions on capacity subject to change according to government advice, currently 1 person/4 sq.m.
  • New bookings will be subject to physical restriction capacity with current bookings prioritised

National Electoral Education Centre

 

  • Open and accepting bookings for 2020.
  • 2020 bookings will run for 60 minutes starting on the hour.
  • Accepting bookings for 2021.

National Film and Sound Archive

 
  • Accepting school groups from August 1.
  • Taking new bookings and honouring current bookings.
  • If group size exceeds 36 people during social distancing restrictions we will consider moving to a larger space (subject to availability) or splitting group into two sessions.
  • For November & December 2020, only accepting new bookings for local schools (ACT and nearby NSW Region). Existing bookings will be honoured.
  • Accepting all 2021 bookings.

National Gallery of Australia

  • Existing and new bookings open for ACT region / nearby NSW groups up to 50 students for Term 4.
  • If group size exceeds 50 students we will consider these on a case-by-case basis.
  • 8 Digital Excursions available for Primary, Secondary and Tertiary.

National Library of Australia

  • Closed Terms 3 and 4 2020.
  • Impacted schools have been notified
  • Planning to resume onsite school programs for Term 1 2021, accepting bookings now

National Museum of Australia

 
  • School visits currently open for education programs. No self-guided school visits. Covid protocols apply which may require rescheduling of some bookings. 
  • Free Digital Excursions currently available for schools across Australia.  
  • Museum in the Classroom available for ACT students.
New bookings can be made online, or by contacting education@nma.gov.au

National Portrait Gallery

 
  • Capacity and access to exhibition displays will be limited, groups up to 60 students.
  • Programs limited to one hour only
  • Free Digital Excursions currently available for schools across Australia
  • New bookings accepted dependant on group size and availability for 2021
  • Changed capacity conditions require rescheduling of some bookings.
  • No self guiding groups

National Zoo and Aquarium

  • Accepting new bookings for visits to the zoo
  • Bookings are being accepted for guided visits with reduced sessions available
  • Please be advised our Aquarium has a maximum occupancy and will not be included in tours. Wait times may apply for unguided access.

Parliament House/PEO

  • Currently open to school groups and is accepting new bookings.
  • PEO program group sizes have reduced from 50 to 25. Schools will need to have sufficient accompanying adults to provide a duty of care ratio of 1 adult to 25 students.

Questacon

  • Bookings for the remainder of 2020 have been cancelled.
  • Currently a temporary block on any changes to new or existing bookings for 2021, whilst we await approval to enter into Phase 2 reopening for schools.
  • Update for existing Term 1 bookings, to be communicated in line with above approval process.

Royal Australian Mint

  • Accepting all school and group bookings from Term 4
  • Bookings must be for guided visits only
  • Pre-existing groups up to 60 will be honoured, some limitations may apply. New bookings limited to a maximum of 60 students and teachers.

Telstra Tower

  • Accepting local school bookings depending on group size.
  • Not taking on any other bookings until 1st of January 2021
